SolTrans rolls out new routes for 2015 to improve service

Vallejo, CA – After an exhaustive yearlong study into how SolTrans can more effectively serve the Vallejo & Benicia Communities, new & improved bus routes will begin Saturday, January 31, 2015.

These changes will help to streamline routes, improve on-time performance and expand service. They will also result in improved service for their customers and allow them to get to their destination more quickly and with less waiting.

Mona Babauta, Executive Director at SolTrans, is excited about these new route changes and how it will improve the service and experience that SolTrans provides its customers and the community.  She had this to say; “The needs of our customers drive our decisions and planning and it’s wonderful to see those plans come to life after all of our hard work.”

Some key highlights from the expanded service and streamlined routes are:

  1. Busses will now arrive every 30 minutes on routes 1, 2 & 7 during the week.
  2. Route 76 will be merged into route 78 and will now offer direct service to both Diablo Valley College and Sunvalley Mall in Concord.
  3. Route 20 will be created for a 1 year pilot program offering service from Downtown Benicia and Solano Community College Campus in Vallejo along with service to the Gateway/Costco Shopping areas in Vallejo as well.
  4. Many of the route times will change and it is important for frequent riders to note those changes.

“We want as little disruption for our regular riders as possible so we placed signage and handouts on all of the buses. We will also be staffing an information table at various times throughout the day at the Vallejo Transit Center starting this Friday, January 30th until Friday, February 6th so that we can meet with as many riders as possible and familiarize them with all of the changes, updates and improvement.” stated Elizabeth Romero, Program Analyst with SolTrans, about their outreach efforts.

The new routes and times are posted on their website

SolTrans has been the public transportation provider for the cities of Vallejo & Benicia California since July 2011. Their offices are located at 311 Sacramento St. Vallejo, CA 9590.

New Schedules effective January 31, 2015

SolTrans took a comprehensive look at all of the transit system’s routes in order to improve transit service throughout southern Solano County and beyond.

Over the past year, the project has included on-board surveys, ridership counts, and a detailed analysis of how people currently use transit within Vallejo and Benicia and beyond. With the help of transit industry experts, SolTrans put together some proposals for how service could be improved in 2015. After  presentation to the public, advisory committees, and two revisions, the SoTrans Board of Directors approved the changes below.

Proposed SolTrans Regional Paratransit Policy

In order to provide quality, mandated ADA Paratransit service for our riders, we are proposing some changes in the way we provide service to destinations outside of the SolTrans service area in Benicia and Vallejo. SolTrans is no longer able to provide “Paratransit Plus” service out of the local service area. To continue to provide our ADA certified riders with regional connections, we are proposing some substitutes to the service including:

  1. Solano County Intercity Taxi Scrip (Solano County Trips only)
  2. Limited Shuttle Service for Solano County trips (Solano County Trips only)
  3. SolTrans Local ADA Paratransit connections to Regional Fixed-Route (for Solano, Napa, and Contra Costa County trips)

We encourage you to submit your feedback HERE by January 19, 2015. To learn more about the proposed changes please come to one of our service change meetings.
