Rider Alert: Minor Delays Along I-680 in Contra Costa County

Effective December 2015

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission will be working on the I-680 Express Lanes project from Walnut Creek to San Ramon throughout the month of December 2015.

Summary

During the month of December, structural work for the Cast in Drilled Hole (CIDH) pile sign foundations continues throughout the I-680 corridor between Walnut Creek and San Ramon. Median barrier replacement and drainage work begins this month. On-going electrical work continues on some city streets and I-680. Work occurs during both day and night shifts.

Purpose

The structural and electrical work supports the future installation of the project’s tolling system.

What to Expect

  • Intermittent and alternating nightly closures continue in the northbound and southbound directions in the lanes closest to the median and the lane closest to the shoulder. Construction crews are permitted to work on these lanes between the hours of 8 p.m. through 5 a.m., Monday through Thursday nights and 8 p.m. through 7 a.m. on Friday nights.
  • Construction crews will be present on some city streets near I-680.
  • Temporary and minor pedestrian detours may occur on city streets to maintain public safety.
  • Temporary k-rail, construction signage and orange plastic fencing will remain along the corridor to maintain a safe work zone.
  • Construction lighting will be present and directed away from residential areas.

Please plan accordingly and thank you for your patience.
