Press Release: Mare Island Route is Extended!
EFFECTIVE MARCH 1, 2017
SolTrans Mare Island Route will continue thru May 27, 2017
VALLEJO, CA—SolTrans is pleased to announce that the Mare Island Shuttle promotional service will be extended through Saturday May 27, 2017 as a demonstration service. This extension will provide the public additional opportunity to experience the route first hand and utilize it to explore Mare Island.
The SolTrans Board of Directors approved the continuation of service at the February 16, 2017 board meeting. The extension allows staff to continue to collect information on ridership levels and determine whether to make it a permanent part of the fixed route service. Planning of the service has kept staff working closely with stakeholders on the Island to identify bus schedule needs and key destinations such as the Veterans Affairs Hospital, Touro University, the Vallejo Unified School District offices and the Global Center for Success.
“Ridership continued to grow throughout the promotional period and we hope to continue that path by offering free fare and encourage everyone to hop on the route.” said Mandi Renshaw, SolTrans Program Analyst I. The fare for all will be FREE throughout the entire demonstration period. In addition, new branding elements will be added both to increases the visibility of the route and to better include it in the SolTrans family of fixed-route bus service.
