SolTrans Press Release – August 20 Service Changes

August 14, 2017

SOLTRANS LAUNCHES NEW MORNING ROUTE 38 AND SERVICE IMPROVEMENTS FOR SOUTH VALLEJO & BENICIA TRANSIT RIDERS

Vallejo, California – SolTrans announces that starting August 20, 2017, the following new route and service improvements will launch to help transit riders from South Vallejo and Benicia with morning commutes.

Route 38

New Route 38 operates one morning trip on school weekdays to supplement existing service on Routes 3 and 8 for students attending Jesse Bethel High School (JBHS). The trip begins at Glen Cove at 7:00am and arrives at JBHS at 7:30am and Gateway Plaza at 7:36am.

Route 3

An additional outbound trip from the Vallejo Transit Center to Glen Cove has been on added to Route 3 during days Vallejo schools are in session. Once in Glen Cove, this additional bus will continue as the new Route 38 trip. This increase in route frequency is to improve access to Jesse Bethel High School for South Vallejo students.

Route 78

Two weekday early morning trips have been added from Benicia to Vallejo Transit Center and will serve the San Francisco Ferry in Vallejo.

Route 1:

The last weekday trip which departs Vallejo Transit Center at 7:00pm is extended to run southbound as far as Broadway & Tall Trees at 7:39pm, with a connection to the Route 2 bus for service toward downtown Vallejo.

Earlier this year, SolTrans staff met with Vallejo Unified School District administrators to discuss how access to transit impacts student attendance.

“Our parents were concerned that the students from South Vallejo had to ride two buses that took an hour and half ride to get to school,” said Jesse Bethel High School Principal, Linda Kingston. “SolTrans heard our concerns and with the new morning Route 38, South Vallejo students can now get to Jesee Bethel in about thirty minutes,” Kingston added.

SolTrans has also made improvements for morning commuters from Benicia by adding additional morning service to the San Francisco Ferry in Vallejo.

According to SolTrans Planning and Operations Manager, Michael Abegg, “Benicia residents now have more options to connect to San Francisco during the morning rush hour.” Abegg also reminded riders, “When using Clipper eCash, a discounted transfer is provided between SolTrans buses and the San Francisco Bay Ferry.”
