Proposed SolTrans-Operated, Regional Paratransit Discontinuation: Request for Public Comment

SolTrans is requesting the public’s feedback on the proposal for the discontinuation of SolTrans-operated, regional paratransit service that provides connections to other regional, ADA paratansit operators. The proposal calls for the regional paratransit service to be administered by the Solano Mobility, except for direct connection transfers between SolTrans and Napa VINEGo, which will continue to be operated by SolTrans. Trips to Fairfield will be transitioned to Solano Mobility programs, while trips to Concord and Pinole will be discontinued. The proposed discontinuation will go into effect Fall 2019 pending SolTrans Board approval.

There is no legal requirement for SolTrans to provide service outside its service area (Benicia and Vallejo), however given the rising cost to operate the regional paratransit service, the service is no longer sustainable. Staff is planning to transition the regional paratransit service to Solano Mobility in Fall 2019, pending board approval by both agencies. Nevertheless, we welcome the public’s feedback.

We will continue to work closely with Solano Mobility to ensure that our customers are able to access the transportation they need. To learn more about STA’s mobility services and programs, please visit solanomobility.org/people-with-disabilities/transportation-programs-options/ or contact the Solano Mobility Call Center at (800) 535-6883.

Please note that this proposal will not impact SolTrans local ADA paratransit service in anyway. Please provide feedback by:

  • Survey HERE
  • Email info@soltransride.com , subject line Regional Paratransit
  • Phone at (707) 648-4666
  • Mail 311 Sacramento Street Vallejo, CA 94590 comments received by July 9, 2019 will be included in the staff report

SolTrans will host a Public Hearing regarding the proposal on July 17, 2019 at 5:30 pm at the Benicia City Council Chamber Hall at 250 East L Street Benicia, CA 94510. Thank you for your feedback.

SolTrans Announces the Passing of Valued Employee Keith O. Ward Jr.

It is with great sadness that SolTrans and National Express Transit announces the passing of Keith O. Ward Jr. He has been part of the team with SolTrans and National Express, helping to provide public transportation in Vallejo and Benicia, for over a decade. Keith started with the team as a driver and has transitioned from Analyst to Scheduler, during his tenure.

Keith was born in Mason City, Iowa in 1953 but grew up in nearby Minnesota, where he developed a love for playing hockey. He attended both Bob Jones University and the University of Minnesota. He had a diverse background before joining the SolTrans team, which included working in his uncle’s butcher shop, selling men’s clothing, driving a Trailways bus, managing a lumber yard, and owning his own construction business. Whatever he did, Keith did it passionately and loved coming to work every day.

Keith’s commitment to his job showed and he was well regarded and respected by his co-workers and the public for his enthusiasm to whatever task he was given. He will be long remembered for his kindness, generosity, humor, and thoughtfulness to those around him and will be dearly missed by his family, his friends and his co-workers. Keith leaves behind his parents, his sister and two daughters.
