Press Release: Benicia Memorial Day Special Service

Benicia, CA – On Monday, May 27 the Benicia Historical Society will host the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Benicia Arsenal Post Cemetery honoring those who have served and are serving in the U.S Military. Due to extremely limited parking at the cemetery, SolTrans will provide a FREE community shuttle from the bus stop at Military and First Street (next to the Benicia First Station) to the cemetery. The shuttle will provide rides to and from the cemetery every 20 minutes beginning at 7:45 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

The Benicia Memorial Ceremony will begin at 8:00 a.m. and will include a wreath-laying ceremony, a rifle salute by the Service Veterans of Northern California Honor Guard, and music provided by the Diablo Regional Concert Band. The color guard will be provided by members of the Benicia VFW and American Legion. The ceremony’s main speaker will be Colonel Gregory Ford, Garrison Commander, Presidio of Monterey. A military fly-over is anticipated during the ceremony and light refreshments will be served after the ceremony.

“Benicia’s Memorial Day Ceremony is a treasured annual gathering that we are so proud to have. The city is lucky to have the partnership with SolTrans so that we can offer these special shuttles to our community events.” Said Elizabeth Patterson, City of Benicia Mayor.

For more information about the Benicia Memorial Ceremony and the Benicia Historical Society, email Wally Stephens at walman@sbcglobal.net.
